Uptown Greenway Trails

We'd like to see a combination walking and bicycle trail built along the creek that runs from Phillips Ave @ Autumn Drive through Gatewood Park to Sullivan Street @ Huffman Street. Such a route would provide bicycle and walking routes from Northeast Greensboro across the Uptown to NC A&T University and Downtown. And the City of Greensboro already owns the property. A spur trail could parallel Headquarters Drive and connect with Lindsey Street next door to the A&T Football Stadium. It could even skirt the Historic Aycock Neighborhood and tie in with the Downtown Greenway.

In the more commercial areas along the trails a new sort of business opportunity would open up for businesses that cater to walkers, joggers and bicyclists with everything from bicycles and running shoes to restaurants, thus making the commercial areas among the safest and most used portions of the trails.

Later this section of trail could be extended beyond Phillips Avenue and into Woodmere Park where it could tie in with trails into Edgeville, Kings Forest, Neiltown Farms, Mount Zion and beyond. While we understand that such a trail might already be on the radar for the Greensboro Metropolitan Planning Organization it is our hope that this project will be moved to the top of the list as Uptown Greensboro and the neighborhoods beyond are sorely lacking in walking and bicycling trails that connect to Downtown Greensboro. As a matter of fact, there are currently no such trails in Uptown Greensboro or any of the afore mentioned neighborhoods that make up almost 1/4 of the entire population of the City of Greensboro-- not one even though other neighborhoods that are less dependent on bicycles and walking already have such trails.

Or you could give us an Uptown Greensboro Performing Arts Center.
